Step 5 - Optical Fiber & Preform

Using the Online RIT (Rod-In-Tube) process, Heraeus customers can simultaneously draw a jacket tube and core rod directly into 125 µm diameter optical fiber in a fiber draw tower.

An alternative to the RIT technique, is overcladding the core rod with a large machined cylinder (Online RIC® - Rod-In-Cylinder). This enables customers to produce several thousand kilometers of fiber in a single-step process. The RIC® process sets a new technological standard which results in a highly cost effective method for the production of optical fiber.
